Biography
October 1865 found Charles E. Graham entering the world in Maryland; by the 1910s he had traded quiet soil for klieg lights. Between Broadway bills and silent-reel shoots, he galloped through Irving’s Sleepy Hollow as the lovesick Ichabod, saluted the flag in My Own United States, and bluffed his way across the poker-table drama On the High Card. Off-camera, he claimed victory of a different sort—convincing Catherine Elizabeth Pierpoint to share his surname. On 2 January 1948 the final curtain dropped in New York City, but the flicker of his three surviving films keeps the applause alive.
