Biography
Charles J. Ross first drew breath on 18 February 1859 amid the snow-lined streets of Montréal, Québec. By the 1890s he had stepped before the camera, bringing Nancy Sykes’ final moments to life in the 1897 short that carries her name. Silent audiences later knew him from the caper The Great Diamond Robbery (1914) and the political drama The Senator (1915). Off-screen, he shared his life with actress Mabel Fenton, his wife and frequent stage partner. Ross’s curtain fell on 15 June 1918 in North Asbury Park, New Jersey, leaving more than twenty years of flickering memories behind him.
