Biography
February 1860, Brooklyn’s waterfront echoed with ship horns the day Charles W. Travis first opened his eyes. By 1916 he had swapped the borough’s salt-stung air for klieg lights, stepping before the camera in a burst of silent-film work: he carried the moral weight of *The Quality of Faith*, navigated courtroom shadows in *According to Law*, and stitched scandal into satin drama for *As a Woman Sows*. Three pictures, one whirlwind year—then the curtain dropped. On 11 August 1917 the same Brooklyn streets welcomed him home for good.
