Biography

Born under the thin, bright air of a Colorado winter on 18 February 1887, Charles Watt grew into the kind of restless energy that pushed him from the Rocky Mountains straight onto flickering screens. He shaped early Hollywood from both sides of the camera—coaxing chaos into order as an assistant director and slipping into characters as an actor. Audiences met his double talents in Tarzan of the Apes (1918), felt the newsroom pulse of The Last Edition (1925), and chased canine capers alongside him in You Never Can Tell (1920). Six decades after his first breath, the Pacific reclaimed him: Watt died in Oxnard, California on 27 February 1959, leaving behind the enduring shadows he helped craft.
