Biography
Born under gaslight in 1857, Charlotte Lambert stepped onto the stage just as footlights were giving way to film lights. Three surviving performances fix her in celluloid amber: the frontier spitfire of *In Mizzoura* (1914), the fresh-faced graduate of *Just Out of College* (1915), and the quiet hero of *The Courage of the Common Place* (1917). After the cameras stopped, she slipped from public view until 8 September 1935, when she drew her final breath in Central Islip, Long Island, New York.
