Biography
November 1887, Missouri: a baby girl drew her first breath and would grow up to answer to Clara Whipple. By her twenties she had stepped from prairie quiet into the flickering new world of motion pictures, leaving vivid imprints in The Gilded Cage (1916), Pettigrew's Girl (1919) and Bonds of Honor (1919). Between shoots she swapped scripts for love vows with actor-director James Young. Forty-five autumns after her first, Clara’s final curtain fell on 6 November 1932 in the electric heart of New York City.
