Biography
On a summer day in 1881—20 July to be exact—Marshalltown, Iowa, welcomed Clyde Benson into the world, little guessing he would grow up to dodge explosions and spies on the silent screen. Between 1916 and 1920 he slipped into three very different disguises: the primal terror of *The Beast*, the cliff-hanging bravado of *Daredevil Jack*, and the shadow-laced intrigue of *Perils of the Secret Service*. Each reel left audiences clutching their seats. When the final curtain fell, it was 15 October 1947 in San Joaquin County, California, where Benson took his bow for good, leaving the flickers flickering in memory.
