Biography

A brisk New-England autumn brought Daniel Jarrett into the world on 22 November 1886, and from Boston’s cobblestones he sprinted toward footlights and flickering screens. Words and greasepaint became his twin passports: he spun stories that galloped across the Southwest in The Border Patrolman (1936), hoisted canvas and adventure in Windjammer (1937), and cracked open desert secrets in The Mine with the Iron Door (1936). Between takes he shared life’s spotlight with Dorothy H. Vogel, the woman who held his hand through the flash-bulb glare. Forty-one circuits of the sun later, on 13 March 1938, the cameras finally dimmed in Hollywood, California, leaving the reels—and the memories—behind.
