Biography
In the vibrant city of London, 1874 marked the birth of Dora Wilson, later known as Dora De Winton, a luminary of the theatre world. As the 1880s unfolded, De Winton's talents shone brightly on the drama and comedy stages, captivating audiences with her undeniable charm. Her transition to the silver screen in 1912, courtesy of the British & Colonial Film Company, paved the way for a prolific career, with the Barker Film Company becoming her creative haven from 1913 onwards. One of her most enduring performances was as Miss Western in Edwin J. Collins' 1917 adaptation of 'Tom Jones', starring Langhorn Burton, a production of the Ideal Film Co. that continues to be etched in the memories of film enthusiasts. De Winton's final on-screen appearance came in 1925, as she brought Lady Barmouth to life in 'The Presumption of Stanley Hay, MP', a Stoll Film Company production. As a member of a talented family, De Winton was also the sister of acclaimed actress Alice De Winton, forging a lasting legacy in the world of entertainment.
