Biography
Before talkies had found their voice, Julien Duvivier was already teaching the camera how to whisper: his 1914 one-reeler Loyalty announced a teenager who could squeeze moral melodrama into a single reel, and by 1922 he had widened the lens, letting the silent valentine Amour breathe in the space between heartbeats and title cards.
