Biography
Born in Helsinki on 8 April 1887, Edith Erastoff stepped from the snow-bright Baltic coast into the flicker of early Nordic cinema. Audiences first felt her quiet force in A Man There Was (1917), then watched her ignite the high-alpine tragedy of Berg-Ejvind och hans hustru (1918) and the scarlet-tinged romance of Sången om den eldröda blomman (1919). Off-screen, she shared her life with two men who shared her surname—first Georg Erastoff, later the pioneering director Victor Sjöström—before settling permanently in Stockholm, where she died on 17 April 1945.
