Biography
A St. Louis winter welcomed Edward Abeles on 4 November 1869, and from that Missouri starting line he sprinted onto Broadway and into flickering nickelodeons. Between 1914 and 1918 he traded fortunes in Brewster’s Millions, navigated Gilded-Age scandal in The House of Mirth, and survived a clock-ticking crime in After Five. Off-screen, he claimed a quieter leading role opposite Charlotte Lander as his wife. The final curtain fell on 10 July 1919 in New York City, the same metropolis that had cheered his every stage-bound stride.
