Biography
Born in Belgium, Edward José first graced the silver screen as an actor, sharing the spotlight with Theda Bara in her iconic 1915 silent film *A Fool There Was*. Shortly thereafter, he shifted behind the camera, where his directorial flair shone through in a series of thrilling adventures starring Pearl White. During the late 1910s and early 1920s, his creative energy fueled a string of feature films, but his most audacious project emerged in 1915 with *The Beloved Vagabond*—a six-reel, color-tinted epic that pushed the boundaries of early cinema. By 1922, José had crossed the Atlantic to France, where he continued to helm productions until 1926, leaving his mark on both sides of the Atlantic with a blend of technical innovation and narrative ambition.
