Biography
Philadelphia greeted Edward MacKay on 27 August 1874, and by the early 1910s he had traded the city’s brick-lined streets for flickering klieg lights. In front of the camera he channeled ambition into The Coming Power and The Span of Life, both released in 1914; a year later he stepped behind it to guide The Secret Orchard. Between takes he exchanged vows first with Alice C. Brown and later with Eloise Elwood. His final curtain fell on 26 December 1948 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, leaving three silent-era milestones as enduring footnotes to a life spent staging dreams.
