Biography
Long before “child star” became a Hollywood cliché, Edward Viner stepped into the glow of early klieg lights, trading a Philadelphia childhood for the flicker of a hand-cranked camera. At eleven he was the velvet-suited heir in 1914’s Little Lord Fauntleroy, audiences from New York nickelodeons to London picture palaces mistaking his wide, anxious eyes for those of the lost little earl himself. Months earlier he had played the pint-size matchmaker in Uncle as Cupid and the boy caught between feuding parents in When Paths Diverge—both 1913 releases that rocketed through projectors while the world still learned how to spell “movie.” Three films, one whirlwind year, and then the century rolled on; the reels survived, but the boy vanished into ordinary life, leaving only the images to keep the name Edward Viner forever young.
