Biography
Hudiksvall, June 26, 1886: a winter-bleached port town greeted its newest resident, Einar Linden. By his late twenties he had traded the Baltic winds for the klieg lights of Europe’s young film industry, slipping into the skin of hot-blooded lovers and fiery gypsies. In 1915 alone audiences watched him duel over Carmen and unravel the dark knots of The Family Stain; the following year he breathed new urgency into Shakespeare’s Verona for Romeo and Juliet. Somewhere between takes he wed Amelia Barbara Fritz, then kept moving west until the Pacific replaced the North Sea. Los Angeles became his final set: he stepped out of frame there on October 19, 1954, leaving the reels—and the town—to keep spinning without him.
