Biography
Milwaukee, 3 May 1883: Babille’s first scene opened in a Wisconsin winter. By the roaring ’20s he had slipped behind the camera, orchestrating chaos for Stop Thief (1920), polishing heartbreak in The Glorious Fool (1922), and keeping a tight rein on the runaway comedy No Control (1927). Between clapperboards he still stepped in front of the lens, trading lines for silents. The final cut came on 18 February 1970 in Los Angeles, where the lights dimmed on a career that had helped steer Hollywood’s early reels.
