Biography
Johnstown, Pennsylvania, greeted E.K. Lincoln on 8 August 1884, and from that steel-town cradle he sprinted toward the flickering new art of cinema. By 1914 he was steering the surreal romance *The Painted World*, two years later he lampooned the cash-craze in *The Almighty Dollar*, and in 1918 he rallied audiences with the war-boosting *Lafayette, We Come*. Between these marquee triumphs he also called the shots from the director’s chair, shaping silent-era stories with the same steady hand. Fate’s final reel rolled on 9 January 1958 in Los Angeles, California, closing the frame on a life spent conjuring dreams from silver nitrate and light.
