Biography
A Valentine’s-Day baby from Brooklyn, Elaine Ivans arrived on 10 February 1900 and stepped before the cameras while still in her mid-teens. Between 1915 and 1917 she flickered across silent screens in three surviving one-reelers—*John Glayde’s Honor*, *The Devil’s Daughter* and *The Last Sentence*—then slipped from public view as quietly as she had come. Fifty-eight years later, on 5 April 1975, the city that first watched her light up the dark took her back, and the credits finally rolled in Manhattan.
