Biography
San Francisco greeted Eleanor Barry on 14 June 1860, and the city’s footlights soon claimed her. Between 1914 and 1915 she stepped before the camera three times, giving life to The Lion and the Mouse, guarding the cursed gem in The Great Ruby, and nursing Heartaches on-screen. Off-screen she shared her surname twice—first with William Bury Irwin Dasent, later with James Gilbert Chesley. Six days shy of her 86th birthday, on 13 March 1946, she took her final bow in Alameda County, the same state that had watched her rise.
