Before talkies had found their voice, Eleanor Dunn had already whispered herself into flickering immortality. She surfaced in 1914 as the hunted heroine of *The Wolf*, slipped that same year into the tattered nobility of *The Ragged Earl*, and, two springs later, traded velvet for scripture as the fervent soul at the heart of *The Evangelist*. Silent screens lit, audiences leaned forward, and—just as quickly—her silhouette dissolved into the bright California haze, leaving only the films to speak for her.
