Biography
Born in Pforzheim on 21 October 1866, Emil Hoch traded the Black Forest for the bright lights of the screen, becoming the sneering embodiment of Kaiser Wilhelm in To Hell with the Kaiser! (1918) and The Great Victory, Wilson or the Kaiser? The Fall of the Hohenzollerns (1919). A decade later he swapped epaulettes for greasepaint in Stage Struck (1925), proving his range stretched far beyond imperial scowls. Hoch’s journey ended in Los Angeles on 13 October 1944, closing the curtain on a career that marched from German silent-film propaganda to Hollywood backlots.
