Biography
Long before pixels replaced celluloid, Emilio Rodani stepped before the camera in 1913 to portray Renzo in The Betrothed, Italy’s first feature-length film, shot in the shadow of Milan’s Arco della Pace. Three years later he resurfaced in Rome’s fledgling studio district, first as the tormented widower of La mano della morta, then as the steadfast bread-carrier of La portatrice di pane—two 1916 melodramas that sent audiences home clutching their handkerchiefs.
