Biography
Emily Lorraine first drew breath in 1878 amid the soot-softened brick of England, and by her mid-thirties she had slipped effortlessly into the flickering new world of celluloid. Between 1914 and 1918 she shaped three now-ghostly stories—Captain Swift, The Accidental Honeymoon, and Pay Day—each performance a quicksilver flash across silent screens. The Atlantic eventually called her name; she crossed it, settled in New York, and there, on 6 July 1944, the final curtain fell.
