Biography
A Colorado snowstorm welcomed Enid Markey on 22 February 1894 in the mining outpost of Dillon, and from that mountain chill she carried a spark that would ignite silent-era screens. By 1917 she was stealing scenes in *The Yankee Way*, a year later she became cinema’s first Jane in *Tarzan of the Apes*, and in 1920 she kept audiences breathless with *Sink or Swim*. Off-camera she traded adventure for constancy, sharing life with playwright George W. Cobb. Six decades after her first close-up, she took her final bow on 15 November 1981 in Bay Shore, Long Island, leaving behind footprints larger than any jungle trail she ever filmed.
