Biography
Born in Copenhagen on 6 July 1877, Erich von Ritzau traded the quiet Baltic air for the flicker of silent-film arc lights. Between 1915 and 1916 he slipped into three very different skins: the scheming lead of A Bold Impersonation, the tortured soul at the heart of The Wayward Son, and one of the interwoven faces in D. W. Griffith’s epic Intolerance. Off-screen he shared his life with two wives—Clara Flemming first, then Elizabeth Pauling—before the California sun set on his story in Los Angeles, 28 February 1936.
