Biography
Before the world stumbled into the Great War, a camera-crazy Londoner named Ernest Laseby slipped across the Atlantic and stepped in front of the Biograph lens. The result—two brisk reels titled Soldiers of Fortune—premiered in 1914, immortalizing him as the dashing mercenary who beat the U.S. cavalry to the punch and vanished from the screen as abruptly as he had arrived.
