Biography
Born under the twin suns of a Hedrehely summer on 26 July 1871, when the village still answered to Vienna, Ernõ Hidvéghy grew into the kind of magnetic presence that silent film could not resist. Within a single year—1915—he stepped before the camera twice and left two indelible footprints: the scheming protagonist of The Undesirable and the tormented nobility of Bánk bán. After the projectors dimmed, he slipped back into the city’s restless bloodstream, living out his days in Budapest until 3 October 1950, when the final curtain fell on the Austro-Hungarian actor whose face once flickered across nascent cinema screens.
