Biography
On 9 December 1883, the mining town of Beuthen O.S.—today Polish Bytom—welcomed Erwin Fichtner into the world. He grew into a performer whose silhouette flickered across early German screens as the tension-tightened investigator of Der Hund von Baskerville (1914), returning twice more to the moors in the series’ third and fourth installments (both 1916). The curtain fell for the last time in February 1944, when Fichtner’s final scene played out in war-battered Berlin.
