Biography
October 12, 1858, New York City greeted a restless bundle named F.A. Turner. By the time cameras began to roll, he had traded city clamor for greasepaint and arc-lights, slipping into characters that still flicker on surviving nitrate: the steadfast guardian in *Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm* (1917), the vengeful soul at the heart of *Restitution* (1918), and the rugged partner in *A Man and His Mate* (1915). Fifty-four years and four months after that first New York sunrise, the curtain came down for good on February 13, 1923.
