Biography
A Le Havre winter brought Fernand Mailly into the world on 26 February 1873, and from that Norman port he sailed onto screens large and small. Audiences first rallied to his swagger in the 1915 adventure *Brigadier Gerard*, later chuckled at his rough-edged charm in 1923’s *Le costaud des Épinettes*, and finally window-shopped beside him in the 1930 fashion-house tale *Ladies’ Paradise*. Paris claimed him again on 20 August 1942, closing the curtain on a life spent translating French esprit into flickering light.
