Biography
Rome, 28 March 1889: the city’s golden light first fell on Fernanda Negri Pouget. By 1908 she had stepped before the camera as Hamlet’s Ophelia, launching a screen career that flickered from the earliest days of Italian cinema. Between that Shakespearean debut and her 1921 turn in Ma non è una cosa seria, she slipped into the robes of Beatrice for The Life of Dante (1913), stitching together three decades of silent-celluloid history. Off-screen, she shared her life with actor-director Armand Pouget. The Tiber that watched her enter the world greeted her final exit on 17 February 1955, still in the city whose name she never left.
