Biography
Florence Coventry first drew breath in 1874 amid the pine-scented air of New Brunswick, Canada. Within months the infant was already a veteran of the touring circuit: her parents, Shakespearean players, carried her onstage in a prop cradle. By forty-four she had slipped effortlessly into flickering light, gifting 1918 audiences three one-reel sensations—The Golden Wall, The Heart of a Girl and Merely Players—each performance a masterclass in arched brow and whispered heartbreak. Twenty-one years later, on 22 November 1939, the curtain fell for the last time; she died in New York City, the electric metropolis that had become her adoptive stage.
