Biography
Philadelphia welcomed Florence Reed on 10 January 1883, and the footlights soon welcomed her back. Over the decades she conjured Pip’s tormented Estella in the 1934 *Great Expectations*, breathed fire into *The Eternal Sin* (1917), and turned the screws of suspense in *Wives of Men* (1918). Off-stage she traded lines for lifelong vows with actor Malcolm Williams. The curtain finally fell on 21 November 1967 in East Islip, Long Island, but the echo of her performances still lingers.
