Biography
A crisp April morning in 1878 San Francisco brought Florence Smythe into the world, and by the time silent film began to flicker, she had stepped straight into its glow. Between 1915 and 1917 she gave life to three now-cult treasures—haunting the shadows of The Voice in the Fog, bridging divides in Common Ground, and chasing love across The Winning of Sally Temple. Off-screen, she shared her days—and last name—with fellow performer Theodore Roberts. Her own final curtain fell on 29 August 1925 in Hollywood, the town that had become her professional home.
