Biography
Long before Barcelona’s boulevards became film sets, Francisco Carrasco was already guiding audiences into shadowed alleys and occult corners. In 1915 he unveiled Los misterios de Barcelona, a celluloid séance that let viewers peek beneath the city’s gilded façade. The next year he tightened the screws with La secta de los misteriosos (1916), a thriller that turned secret societies into national conversation pieces. Refusing to let the tension slacken, Carrasco traveled south to chronicle colonial ghosts in La agonía de Arauco (1917), sealing his reputation as the early Spanish cinema’s chief architect of suspense.
