Biography
A midwinter baby cried first on 16 January 1864 in the Gold-Rush bustle of Marysville, California, and that squall belonged to Frank Bacon. By adulthood he had traded pickaxes for play scripts, carving a stage and screen career that peaked with two cinematic takes on his signature lightning rod, Lightnin’—the silent landmark of 1925 and its 1930 talkie echo. Off-camera he shared life and curtain calls with fellow player Jane Jennie Weidman, their marriage an on-going duet. Bacon’s final bow came unannounced on 19 November 1922 in Chicago, yet his spark still flickered publicly when The Magnavox Theater broadcast his work in 1950, a ghost-light lingering twenty-eight years after his exit.
