Biography
A spring Tuesday in 1863 saw the first cry of Frank Monroe echo through Jersey City, New Jersey. By the flicker of nickelodeon lamps he would grow into a face on the silver sheet, slipping through the shadows of 1915’s *The Gray Mask*, chasing retribution in 1917’s *Vengeance Is Mine*, and untangling a comic frame-up in 1921’s *Torchy’s Frame-Up*. Off-screen, his leading lady was Viola Miles, the woman he wed and kept close through every reel change. The final curtain fell on 19 July 1937, when Monroe’s story ended in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York.
