Biography

London welcomed Frank Stanmore on 10 March 1877, and by the time the cameras began to roll he had already honed a gift for slipping into other skins. Silent London streets first noticed him in 1915’s *Love in a Wood*, his comic timing flickering to life in monochrome. A decade later he swapped wood for wheels, steering laughs in 1929’s *Three Men in a Cart*. Talkies arrived, and Stanmore answered with windmills—donning Sancho Panza’s garb opposite Don Quixote in 1933, voice and whiskers quivering in perfect step. The final curtain fell on 15 August 1943 in Gravesend, Kent, but the reels he left behind still spin, keeping the Londoner forever in motion.
