Biography

Born within the clatter of Manhattan’s streets on 4 June 1892, Fred Fleck traded the city’s skyscrapers for studio backlots, becoming the quiet engine that kept cameras rolling and temperamental productions on schedule. His uncredited fingerprints are everywhere: guiding the aerial chaos of Jet Pilot (1957), orchestrating the spooky mayhem of You’ll Find Out (1940), and tightening the noir screws on Angel Face (1952). Off-set he shared life with his wife, Helen. Sixty-nine years after his first breath, he took his last on 9 November 1961 in North Hollywood, California, leaving behind film reels that still spin thanks to his invisible mastery.
