Biography
Lambeth gave the world Fred Hearne on 2 June 1889, and from that London borough he set off to make faces for the camera long before it was fashionable. Silent-era audiences first spotted him in 1915’s crime quickie *Graft*, but it was talkies that let his comic timing snap: in 1935 he joined the chaotic lineup of *Birds of a Feather*, then two years later traded pratfalls in the musical romp *Over She Goes*. When the curtain finally rang down on 20 September 1958, he exited stage left in Denmark Hill, London—only a few miles from where his story began, yet worlds away from the flicker of early British cinema he helped keep alive.
