Biography
Born in 1887 in the Canadian wilds of Penetanguishene, Fred Pitt swapped the pine-scented shores of Georgian Bay for the flicker of early Hollywood lights. Within a year of his 1914 arrival in California, he stepped in front of the cameras for The Eternal Strife (1915), a one-reel civil-war drama that premiered 17 May 1915 and still circulates among silent-film archivists. Pitt never made another picture; after the shoot he returned north, married Pearl Helen Shea in Victoria on 24 October 1915, and spent the next half-century as a mechanical engineer, quietly living until his death in Vancouver in 1971.
