Biography
Vienna, 21 March 1882: the city’s waltz-filled air greeted Fritzi Massary’s first cry. Within twenty years that same voice—silvery, fearless—was selling out theaters from Berlin to Broadway. Silent screens caught her in 1915’s Der Tunnel, the exotic whirl of Die Rose von Stambul (1919), and the madcap twirls of Narrentanz der Liebe (1920). Offstage, two husbands—comic genius Max Pallenberg and physician Doktor Pollack—shared her spotlight. On 30 January 1969, in sun-drenched Beverly Hills, the curtain fell for the last time.
