Biography
Born under the Mediterranean sun of Ajaccio on 21 November 1887, Gabriel de Gravone traded island breezes for the flicker of silver screens, commanding attention as both actor and director. Audiences first leaned forward for him in 1922 when he steered Rouletabille through Bohemian back-alleys, then again that same year when he breathed life into L’Arlésienne’s restless passion. Four years later he cradled cinema itself with Le berceau de dieu, sealing his place in the silent-era firmament. After five and a half decades of storytelling, he took his final bow in Marseille on 5 December 1972.
