Biography
Boston, 27 September 1877: the curtain rose on Gaston Bell. By 1913 he had stepped before the cameras for *Nathan Hale* and *The Third Degree*, then faced *The Wolf* in 1914, sealing his place among the pioneers who taught the screen to speak in silence. Sixty years after those first flickers lit up nickelodeons, the lights dimmed for the final time in Woodstock, New York, on 11 December 1963.
