Biography
Moscow, 25 August 1892: the curtain rose on Georg Asagaroff. Before the Revolution he was already facing the camera—Grekh slipped into cinemas in 1916, Kulisy ekrana peeled back the screen’s secrets a year later—then exile carried him west. In Berlin he traded actor’s greasepaint for a megaphone, marshalling Cossack songs into talkie form with Das Donkoslied (1930). The journey ended in Munich, West Germany, on 2 November 1957, but the light he projected keeps moving.
