Biography
A midwinter baby, George Barnes arrived in Missouri on 29 January 1880 and stepped before the camera while the film industry was still inventing itself. Between 1910 and 1914 he slipped into three of the era’s wildest narratives—chasing Powhatan’s daughter through Pocahontas, tangling with mesmerists in Hypnotized, and maneuvering court intrigue in Cardinal Richelieu’s Ward—then vanished from the screen as quietly as he had appeared. Nearly four decades later, on 20 July 1951, the curtain closed for good in sun-washed Palm Beach, Florida.
