Biography
Bristol welcomed George Bellamy on 10 July 1866, and from that first breath he seemed destined to trade in make-believe. By the time cinema found its voice, he was already fluent in silence, steering performances and cameras alike. Audiences remember him best through the flicker of Lorna Doone (1920), the moral tempest of The Christian (1915), and the shadowed alleys of Little Dorrit (1920). Fifty-one winters after his debut, London drew the final curtain on 26 December 1944, closing the scene on a life spent conjuring whole worlds from light and celluloid.
