Biography
A Kansas City boy who arrived in 1877 and stepped before the camera while the medium was still wet with novelty, George Stone traded prairie dust for klieg lights and became one of the silent era’s reliable faces. In 1915 he gambled on The Game of Three, then four years later trekked through The Jungle Trail’s cardboard vines, both pictures sealing his place in flickering history. Off-screen he claimed Etta Pillard as his leading lady; together they rode out the storms of early Hollywood until the final reel rolled on 10 July 1939 in Baldwin, New York, the curtains closing on a life that had spanned the birth of American movies.
