Biography
Gilbert Colas left his fingerprints on three very different decades of early French cinema: in 1909 he launched the first chapter of Les nouveaux exploits de Nick Carter – Épisode 1: En danger, giving Parisian audiences a breathless taste of the American detective’s peril; four years later he resurfaced as the guiding hand behind Protéa (1913), a spy caper that let its heroine outwit every man in the frame; and after a long hiatus he returned in 1937 to direct Abus de confiance, a trenchant study of betrayal that proved silent-era talents could still sting with sound.
